In which I review my essay from 10 years ago, addressing the relationship between biblical teachings and contemporary views on marriage, particularly same-sex unions. The post contrasts supposedly “traditional” biblical views on marriage, primarily one man and one woman, with the Bible’s diverse representations of marital arrangements, including polygamy. Many churches recognise and acknowledge marriages beyond Christian contexts, which raises questions of consistency about failure to be inclusive for same-sex couples. I contend that biblically love, respect, and integrity are essential in relationships, suggesting that a broader understanding of marriage is needed within the church, especially towards LGBTQ+ individuals.
