In this blog I argue that Christians should respond to transgender and intersex people with the compassion, mercy and unconditional welcome modelled by Jesus. Drawing on historical examples of gender diversity and a detailed examination of Scripture, I contend that the Bible does not directly address modern transgender identity and that passages sometimes used to condemn it are being taken out of their cultural and theological context. The blog challenges churches that prioritise rules, condemnation or exclusion, highlighting the emotional and spiritual harm this can cause. Above all, it calls Christians to look beyond outward appearance, recognise God’s concern for the human heart, and offer transgender and intersex people genuine welcome, dignity and grace.
